Deadstock, or stock fabric, is finished fabric left with mills, converters and fashion houses after production: overruns, cancelled orders, leftovers from past seasons. Prato has many warehouses handling wool coatings and suitings, cotton, linen, viscose, silk and knitted jersey. As a rule, stock costs noticeably less than fabric made to order, but each item is limited in quantity and usually cannot be repeated in the same colour. These fabrics suit fabric shops, ateliers and small labels that do not need hundreds of metres of one article. We pick items to match your profile, show them on video, send swatches, re-measure the actual length and bring purchases from different warehouses into one shipment.
How we handle deadstock
How lots are sold
Warehouses sell by the roll, by the cut or as a whole lot, and some items by weight. The minimum cut depends on the warehouse, and we confirm it in advance.
Selection by video
We show the fabric in daylight and against the light, draped, stretched and crushed, with a ruler across the repeat.
Swatches
We cut samples of the items you shortlist and send them in one parcel. Whether the warehouse holds them meanwhile is confirmed item by item.
Length and width
We re-measure the rolls, check width and composition against the warehouse data, and look for flaws and shade differences between rolls.
Consolidation
We gather fabrics from several warehouses, protect the rolls from moisture and label each package for transport.
Documents and delivery
We prepare the export documents and ship by courier, air, road or sea.

Questions about deadstock fabrics
Can I reorder the same fabric later?
As a rule, no: a stock lot is finite, and once it is sold the same fabric may never come back. If an item matters for a collection or a display, buy extra length straight away.
How many metres can I buy of one item?
It depends on the lot: from a single cut or roll up to hundreds of metres for a large lot. We confirm the exact balance with the warehouse and re-measure before payment, so you pay for the actual length.
How do I find out the composition of a stock fabric?
From the mill's or warehouse's documents, where they exist. For part of the stock the composition is known only from the seller, and we state that clearly in the description. If composition is critical for you, choose items with documents.
Why must I decide quickly on stock fabric?
Good items sell fast, and a warehouse usually holds an unpaid reservation only briefly, a day or two. We send the warehouse invoice right after the live session or once you have the swatches, so the fabric does not go to another buyer.
How is stock different from fabric made to order?
A mill produces made-to-order fabric in the colour and quantity you need, but with a minimum per colour and a production lead time. Stock is available immediately and usually cheaper, but only in the quantity and colour on the shelf. We also handle made-to-order fabric sourcing with mills.
