The first question almost every buyer asks is what clothing costs in Prato and how large the minimum order is. A pronto moda showroom sells ready-made styles at a fixed price per piece, while a factory producing to order prices by batch size, and the unit price as a rule drops noticeably as volumes grow. Wholesale prices in Prato are usually quoted excluding VAT. They typically do not include marketplace packaging, your own labels or shipping. So do not compare the price on the tag. For production to order the minimums are higher: to make your own style, factories typically ask for anything from a few dozen to 100-150 pieces per model, and weaving mills count their minimum in metres per colour. Our EUR 500 minimum and why we do not sell single pieces
The minimum order through us is EUR 500 for the whole purchase, not per factory. Within that amount you can buy from several showrooms in one live shopping session, as long as each showroom's own minimum per model is met. The first session is included in our service. We do not sell single pieces for a simple reason: Prato wholesalers sell to businesses in packs, and on single items the cost of buying, checking, packing and paperwork is out of proportion to the value of the goods. Wholesale prices are also lower precisely because of volume. Our commission is 10% on orders up to EUR 2,000, 9% above EUR 2,000 and 7% above EUR 5,000. There is no hidden mark-up: invoices come from the factories, and you see their real prices.
What EUR 500, 2,000 and 5,000 can buy
With EUR 500 buyers usually put together a test order: a few styles from one or two showrooms. At an average of EUR 10-20 per piece, that is roughly 25-50 items, enough to test demand in a new market, on social media or in an online shop. With EUR 2,000 you can build a small capsule for a boutique or a marketplace: 10-20 styles from three to five showrooms, around 100-200 items in total, depending on the categories. A budget of about EUR 5,000 and above lets you cover a season across several categories, add outerwear or knitwear, and test a small production run of one or two styles under your own label, if the factory's minimums allow it. The exact quantity depends on the price segment you choose.
Paying factories and your landed cost
Fast payment matters in Prato. Showrooms usually hold selected styles only briefly, often one or two working days, after which the goods may go to another buyer. For production to order the typical arrangement is a deposit at launch and the balance before shipment, after the quality check. So have your company details ready and be able to pay quickly by bank transfer in euros. On top of the goods, add shipping, import duties and taxes in the destination country, and our commission. When goods leave the EU, Italian VAT is as a rule not charged, provided customs confirm the export. Delivery time depends on the route and method: express courier is usually faster, road and sea freight are cheaper but slower. Check duty rates for your HS codes with a customs broker in advance.
